#YouthActivist
Shanley Clemot McLaren, a 25-year-old activist from Sciences Po Paris, was recently recognized at the Young Activists Summit for her dedication to collective action.
Shanley began her fight for feminism at just 17. Seeing an increase in online harassment during COVID-19 prompted her to create #StopFisha, a platform addressing image-based sexual abuse. 'Fisha' accounts publish intimate photos and videos of young women without their consent. Shanley also organized protests which gained media attention that led to discussions with government officials. Despite challenges working with social media giants like Meta on reporting mechanisms, her unwavering commitment has empowered individual victims, and fostered a broader societal dialog about consent, respect, and the urgent need for comprehensive digital safety measures.
She is now balancing studies and work in France's government, championimg laws against gender-based violence while continuing to provide support for victims through social media initiatives. Shanley proves that one women can create a ripple effect that changes lives, laws and our culture.
