Female Dean of UCF Medical School is breaking the mold to produce hundreds of women doctors

Since 2009, with German at the helm, UCF College of Medicine has graduated 847 physicians — 417 of them were women. “It is not something every medical school does.”

The gist:

Nationally, “only 36% of registered physicians are female,” per the Federation of State Medical Boards.

But the Dean of the University of Central Florida's College of Medicine is changing that. From her own firsthand experience as “one of the only women in her class at Harvard Medical School,” Dr. Deborah German went on to found the School’s medical program and has established the following track record: over the last 13 years, under her leadership, the school has consistently graduated 50% women per class. She believes the greatest effect will be on the future, “one woman doctors will help create.”
