The gist:
With evidence “demonstrating conclusively that where women are well represented in government, there is more investment in social protection and a better focus on climate justice,” and that “their participation in peace talks is linked to more durable solutions and their “leadership in the private sector, leads to better business performance on many parameters.” Michelle Bachelet, the UN ‘s excellent High Commissioner for Human Rights noted that at the current pace, “gender parity in national legislatures would not be reached before 2063, nor would the number of women and men heading Government is equal before 2150.”
That’s WAY too long for the world to wait to reap those benefits.
She “encouraged all leaders to appoint 50% of women to their Cabinets” and to” harness the use of temporary special measures to, among other things, recruit and train women candidates and target women for positions in politics and government.” But who is going to be in charge of doing that, men? Are you picking up what we’re putting down?
We are tired of the ‘Woman is…BUT…’ stories we hear over and over. That’s where we are trying to make a change. We offer the faxx that counter—and dismantle—the bias that keeps us out of those leadership positions and encourages Women to act together once again to make the change as fast as we need it to happen.
The time is now, and we are the Woman we have been waiting for. Hire a woman. Call a Congressperson. Run for Congress. Don’t be still or silent. Move the needle.
