The gist:
In her Entrepreneur article, Sabrina Phillips explains that it isn't just 'male bias'—it's also that bias internalized—by womxn that trains us to hold ourselves back. Imposter syndrome, anyone?
"Think about what the word "leader" brings to mind. Who do you imagine? What does a leader look like to you? Chances are you've probably thought of an Ivy League-educated man who went to business school or became a politician. And that, my friend, is a massive problem."
You can't be it if you can't see it.
"If young girls never see themselves in government, in the boardroom, in NASA — everywhere men dominate the airwaves — how are they supposed to know that stepping into those positions isn't just possible but probable."
And that "if we want to create a better world for everyone, then it needs to start with bringing more women into the spotlight." Two reasons? True equality rests in equity.
The faxx:
- Businesses founded by women earn 2x the dollar invested than those established by men and generate 10% more revenue over five years.
- Companies with diverse leadership teams are more innovative (and financially successful) than those without.
- Companies with female CFOs see, on average, a 6% increase in profits—and an 8% increase in stock return—compared to men, and they bring their companies an additional $1.8 trillion in cumulative profits.
And this is essentially what she, and we here at #Girlfaxx want womxn and girls to see, to be who we were born to be…not the womxn who have had their potential (and self-esteem squashed) simply by living in a system with a mismatch for our needs and personal development.
Because, as you can see, the world needs what we're bringing to the table.
