Oxfam’s global partnering programs aim at fostering feminist leadership through mentorship and training across 13 countries to foster a more equitable society where all individuals can thrive irrespective of gender. The goal is to enable women leaders to challenge power dynamics, advocate for equal rights, and cultivate cultured that value and recognize the leadership potential of women.
Here are a few accomplishments:
- Promoting women leaders in Malawi has increased the number of women in parliament from 32 to 45 seats.
- The Network of Ethiopian Women’s Associations created policy recommendations and held training programs to encourage the Ministry of Women and Social Affairs to fund daycare centers for government workers. The ministry now has staff focused on unpaid care and women workers.
- Members of Kenya’s Women Governors Caucus are developing an initiative to support women leaders through mentorship and training at local and regional levels, so more women are empower to shape policies on gender and inequality.
- In the United States The New Era for Black Women Initiative, launched in 2023, is designed to promote leadership among Black women as part of Oxfam’s effort to help create 'a Black women’s policy and advocacy agenda' that addresses racial, gender, social justice, and economic inequality in States like Georgia.
