A report has found that women were starting and running new businesses at "statistical parity" to men last year in Scotlan. The Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) report, an annual measure of entrepreneurship, was compiled by the universities of Edinburgh, Glasgow and Strathclyde. It found that 8.6% of working-age women in Scotland were running or setting up a new business in 2023 compared with 9.8% of men. Of the approximately 300,000 people involved in early-stage entrepreneurial activity in 2023, women's participation accounts for roughly half of that number, which experts describe as "momentous." In 2023, 8.6% of working-age women were engaged in early-stage entrepreneurial activity compared to 9.8% of men. The government has announced a £5m package of support, including a £2.6m investment across programs that enhance early-stage entrepreneurship, with further targeted support for those from under-represented backgrounds.
